During Governor Wolf’s Pipeline Infrastructure Task Force meeting this week, PEIA members LiUNA, the Pennsylvania State Grange, IUOE Local 542, the Manufacturer’s Association, IBEW Local 143 and IBEW Local 743 stood up to voice their opinions of support for Pennsylvania pipeline infrastructure, and their voices were clearly heard.

Local news outlets, including WGAL-TV 8 (NBC) and StateImpact PA, took notice of PEIA member Abe Amoros, state legislative director at LiUNA, as he spoke out about safety and in support of the Mariner East pipeline project at Wednesday’s Task Force meeting. As a result, Amoros was quoted in an article that appeared in StateImpact, in which, he conveys the importance of local participation in energy development:

“We play a central role in ensuring pipelines are developed safely and responsibly. We have a vested interest in how this final report is crafted. These projects are lifelines for our community, helping to build lifelong careers for our members.”

It was clear by the end of the discussion that there is strong support amongst residents in support of advocating for the safe, responsible development of critical pipeline infrastructure that would help Pennsylvania fully realize the potential of its abundant natural gas resources.

It is now time for the Task Force members to acknowledge this positive public awareness and discuss next steps towards promoting pipeline infrastructure in Pennsylvania at their next meeting on January 20th, 2015.
