A new report by SNL Energy found that natural gas has become the top source of electric generation in the US, beating out coal use for the top spot. The combination of increased production and new environmental regulations has resulted in increased natural gas use.
Steve Piper, associate director of energy fundamentals at SNL Energy, noted “There’s been a change both from a regulatory and economic perspective in terms of the competitiveness of natural gas. The transition from coal has been stunning.”
