It’s no secret that Pennsylvania produces tremendous amounts of natural gas. Thousands of lives have been improved, and scores of communities across the state continue to enjoy the benefits brought on by the natural gas revolution nearly a decade ago.
In fact, according to David Spigelmyer, the President of the Marcellus Shale Coalition:
“According to Spigelmyer, Pennsylvania now supplies about 25 percent of the country’s natural gas. While there are 9,923 unconventional wells in the state, there are currently about 2,000 wells waiting for pipelines before they can be opened.”
Spigelmyer went on to cite a recent study which “identified $60 billion in economic opportunities” so long as Pennsylvania makes sure to “get the downstream equation right.” It’s of paramount importance that Pennsylvania continues to invest in all facets of the natural gas process – from drilling to processing. It allows us to continually reap the rewards from our natural resources. Projects like Shell’s $6 billion ethane cracker plant in Beaver County show the opportunity in front of us, and choosing to seize that chance will help thousands more Pennsylvanians.
