Representatives from the West Hills Center at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) stress the industry opportunities for pipeline welding.
According to Ron Logreco, Dean of the West Hills Center, “Welding pipe is the highest level of skill in welding.”
Patrick Camut, welding student at the West Hills Center, details that, “the classes are set up so you do structural welding first and then you move into pipeline welding, because you want to show that you are ready to take on that beast which is pipeline welding.”
According to Cody Stroud, welding instructor at the West Hills Center, explains that “being a builder, you start with steps. You start with basic welding all the way up into your API code.” He explains that this is fundamentally a matter of jobs and safety. “We want to keep people in PA involved with the shale and that’s what we’re trying to do here at our program”
