“If you build it, they will come”

Ryan Helms of IBEW Local 743 and a PEIA member recently voiced his urgency for Pennsylvania to build new pipeline infrastructure. New pipelines will help Pennsylvania continue its rise as an American energy giant.

As Mr.  Helms wrights in the Reading Eagle:

Pennsylvania should move quickly to endorse pipeline infrastructure projects that are focused at home, such as Sunoco Logistics’ Mariner East 2 project, which would expand the capacity of the Mariner East 1 line to carry homegrown energy products that heat and power our homes and businesses and remain essential to our economy.

His letter also discusses the importance of expanding Pennsylvania energy infrastructure before other energy dominant areas, such as Texas and regions along the Gulf Coast, take advantage of the current energy projects underway in Pennsylvania. The shale gas boom is not going unnoticed throughout the country, and energy infrastructure is quickly becoming the hot topic as more areas act to benefit from this energy revitalization.

Pipelines are the key to energy leadership in the United States. Helms believes that if you build it, they will come. And he is right in stating that the reverse is also true – if we don’t build it, energy won’t come to Pennsylvania, but instead go to places such as Texas and the Gulf of Mexico.
